MONOPOLAR

Carlos “Mono” Ramírez and Humberto Polar started Monopolar back in 2000 – shortly after they met – when they joined forces as Bogota’s La Sala Club resident DJs. Bringing their common backgrounds in both Jazz & Techno to the table, the two began experimenting in electronic production, and soon they began creating weekly joint DJ sets – moving swiftly to produce their own tracks and then onward to become a live act. Their DJ experience led them instantly to the dance floor ethos, with a conceptual approach to their music: their Latin American origin. Away from the cliches and the obvious latin perc sampling, their tracks are deeply-rooted in the syncopated backbeat that defines the Afro-Latino sound through a contemporary Techno and House vocabulary. Mono was a resident DJ at La Sala until the club closed in early 2010. His sets achieved an almost-mythical status among the Bogotanian clubbers. Polar, meanwhile, moved to Mexico City in 2003, where he now lives and works actively promoting quality house and techno music.

From 2008 Polar is the only member of the project. He settled in Berlin for a time, producing and playing at venues such as Suicide Circus, Club Der Visionaere, Picknick & Madcheninternat. In 2009, Monopolar won the We Love Remix Contest, taking a stab at Tiefschwarz’s “Yeah,” and was also a featured artist for the Mutek Mexico 5th Anniversary edition. Recent years have been very active, as the Pantamuzik label continues to push boundaries in South America & beyond, internationally. Monopolar has played at major parties in different cities such as New York, Buenos Aires, Bogota, and Lima – with the likes of Camea, Ryan Crosson, Jay Haze, Stefan Goldman, and Vera. His reputation is growing daily as one of the most prominent techno musicians of Latin America and as a hard-working, passionate promoter of dance music in that region of the world. His music has been remixed by Jay Haze, Camea, Sierra Sam, Agaric and Jay Tripwire. He has released 15 EPs in vinyl and digital, and recently featured his latest live act in Boiler Room Mexico, to great success.
